Rhodope

The Rhodopes are Bulgaria's most extensive mountain range — not in height (the highest peak, Golyam Perelik, is 2191 m), but in area and variety. Here we offer hikes of different character: through the coniferous forests of the Western Rhodopes (Ortsevo, Batak), past the Fotinski waterfalls, to the deep Trigrad Gorge and Yagodina Cave. The Eastern Rhodopes are warmer and drier, with unique flora and rock formations around Ardino and Momchilgrad. Unlike Pirin or Rila, the Rhodopes offer a gentle, family-friendly kind of hiking — more manageable distances, more traditional villages and the chance to stay in authentic guest houses. An ideal mountain for weekend outings and family adventures.
