Peak Mechit - A Winter Fairytale in Rila

Get ready for a one-day adventure with snowshoeing in Northwestern Rila, a day filled with many emotions and incredible winter panoramas of the snow-covered Rila.

Tour Itinerary

Departure from Sofia in the late afternoon. Our meeting point is in front of the Vasil Levski National Stadium and the second stop is at the 'Metro' store. For those with private transport, the meeting point is at a location near the village of Govedartsi. We leave our cars near the village. The guides provide a brief briefing to the group and safety instructions. We pack our backpacks and head towards the Mechit hut. After about 1 hour, we arrive at the hut. It’s bustling, clean, and hospitable. That's how we can describe it. Equipped with everything necessary for a pleasant stay. Once settled, we have dinner and call it a night to be ready to easily climb to the peak the next day.

7:30 AM - Breakfast

8:30 AM - We set off towards our destination.

Moving outdoors, we have the chance to admire the winter landscapes around us. And before we know it, we're at the peak of Malak Mechit. A quick photo break and tea from our thermoses. We continue briskly towards the summit. Following the trail markers, we almost imperceptibly reach Golyam Mechit at 2568 meters. Pictures, smiles, and breathtaking views. There's no beauty like this. Come share the moment. We'll take ample time for rest, photos, and then start our return. If the group keeps up a good pace, we might even have time to enjoy a meal of delightful local cuisine and wine at a nearby tavern.

  • In the event of a change in weather conditions during the tour or other unforeseen situations, the guide may change the route or offer another alternative option to the participants for their safety.
  • If the program cannot happen due to bad weather forecast, the organizer will refund 100% of the price to the participants
  • In order to take part in the tour, you must be in good physical health and condition, and notify the organizer in case you have any illnesses or injuries
  • If the number of participants is less than the minimum 6 and the program will not happen, the organizer will notify all registered participants up to 7 days before the event
  • Discounts cannot be combined

Headlamp - An absolute must-have accessory for every mountaineer. It may be necessary for the group to start a trek very early or finish the trek in the dark (force majeure). In these situations, each participant must have a headlamp. We recommend going with a proven brand like Petzl or BlackDiamond

About 40 liters backpack - Quite enough for one or two day hikes. Please come to treks with a backpack suitable for trekking. Very often, each participant needs to attach snowshoes to their backpack, and this cannot happen with urban backpacks
