A two-day trek in Rila to the Seven Lakes and Ivan Vazov hut, taking in the ascent of Otovitsa peak (2,696 m), the highest point of the ridge that carries its name.
We ride the Seven Rila Lakes chairlift and, passing the Kidney, the Eye and the Tear, reach Razdela, from where we descend the broad Pazar Dere valley to Ivan Vazov hut, one of the highest-standing huts in the Balkans. The next day we climb Otovitsa, from where in clear weather almost the whole of Rila is laid out before us, before heading back to the lift.
Tour Itinerary
Transfer to Panichishte. We take the chairlift up to Rila Lakes hut and from there set off past the Kidney, the Eye and the Tear towards the Razdela area. Here the ridge opens a view over most of the Seven Lakes, before we descend the long Pazar Dere valley, flanked by the massif of Golyam and Malak Kalin, to Ivan Vazov hut - a night in one of the most authentic and highest-standing huts in Bulgaria.
If the group would like to and the weather allows, we climb up to the Kalin peaks in the late afternoon.
