Mazalat Hut and Sunsets over the Central Balkan – Balkan

Mazalat Hut and Sunsets over the Central Balkan

31 October - 01 November 2026 Saturday – Sunday 2 Days - 1 Night
Balkan
Organized or own

A winter's tale from the Central Balkan. We climb Valcha Glava peak and spend the night at the remarkable Mazalat hut. The hut sits in Central Balkan National Park at 1,620 m, in the Mandrishteto area, and forms part of the Kom-Emine route (E3), the most popular long-distance trail in Bulgaria. It looks after its walkers well, with electricity, running water and indoor facilities, and the food is not to be missed. The view towards the Triglav massif makes a glass of red wine feel entirely reasonable.

Tour Itinerary

Departure time: 7:00 AM

For those who have chosen to travel under their own steam, we meet in front of the Partizanska Pesen hut.
Once the group is together there is a short briefing with the mountain guide and an equipment check.
The day's route is thoroughly enjoyable, and our guide will take you along it by the safest line. We begin climbing gently, first through the forest belt and then out onto the open ridge, with Buzludzha and Shipka visible ahead of us in the distance. There is of course plenty of time for photographs and breaks.
And there is Mazalat hut, already in front of us.
Once the group has settled in and rested, the second part of the day begins: seeing the sun down from Valcha Glava peak. A perfect end to our Saturday in the mountains. We return to the welcoming hut for a hot dinner and good conversation.

You can tell the day by its morning. We will let you sleep in, eat good mekitsi and drink coffee, and set off back with energy to spare. Today you will also see the geographical centre of Bulgaria, we will try the cooking at another hut, and pleasantly tired we will head for home.
