Three days of via ferrata in the Rugova gorge near Peja, Kosovo - five routes of increasing difficulty and a Tibetan bridge strung over the void.
Rugova is home to the first and still the most varied via ferratas in the Balkans - routes carved into the sheer limestone walls of the gorge, each with its own character: from a gentle walk along the river to a vertical ladder above a 60-metre drop. We leave from Sofia, cross the border at Kriva Palanka, and arrive in the heart of the Prokletije for three days between sky and cliff.
This programme is emphatically not suitable for anyone afraid of heights. Every route runs across open, exposed rock faces, in places tens of metres above the ground, including crossings of suspended bridges and vertical ladders.

Tour Itinerary
An early start from Sofia via Kyustendil and the Gyueshevo border crossing (around 6 hours to Peja). We arrive around midday, have lunch in Peja and take a short transfer to the entrance of the Rugova gorge. In all likelihood we will have time only for Via Ferrata Ari - the first one built in Kosovo, moderate in difficulty and a good introduction to moving on cables and rungs. In the evening we check in inside the gorge.
The biggest day of the programme. In the morning we climb Via Ferrata Peja 360 - the newest (2023) and most demanding of the Kosovar ferratas, culminating in a 16-metre vertical circular ladder (the vertical Tibetan bridge). Since it shares a start point with Ari, if the group is in good shape and we have time we carry straight on to Via Ferrata Shpellat (The Caves) - a route threading through several natural caves. After lunch a short transfer down the road takes us to Via Ferrata Marimangat - a horizontal route of around 1000 m featuring the crossing of the iconic Tibetan bridge, suspended 60 m up. The route has an escape exit before the final and hardest section, so if need be the group can cut it short and come out early rather than committing to the end.
A morning ascent of Via Ferrata Mat - the easiest and shortest of the routes, starting from the same point as Ari and Shpellat. After lunch we head back, stopping in Kriva Palanka (North Macedonia) to eat, with the option of a short visit to the St. Joachim of Osogovo monastery if time allows.
