A winter walk to Malak Polich - the westernmost two-thousand-metre peak in Rila - invites us to a real adventure amid the silence and magic of the winter mountains. Though climbed less often, this summit is striking for its panoramic views, its sense of solitude and its unaffected beauty, all of which make it a genuine jewel of Rila. Our route crosses the north-western slopes of the range: wild, snowbound and charged with energy. A dynamic and challenging day awaits, in which the effort will be repaid with views, calm and that particular satisfaction known only to those who are not afraid of winter heights.

Tour Itinerary
The transfer to the village of Padala takes about 2:00 hours.
From the very start the path heads confidently upwards, along the steep rib that leads towards Karaula peak. The climb is intense, but it gradually opens ever wider views of the surrounding ridges and the snowy slopes of Rila. After about two hours we reach the summit - not the highest in the area, but with a fine panorama towards the valley of the Rilska river and the powerful massif of Golyam Polich. From here winter Rila looks like an endless sea of snow and rock, while the valleys below us sink into mist and silence. After a short break and time for photographs we head back, with the option of a different route down - finishing the walk with a sense of completeness, freshness and one more winter height reached.
