The Vapski (or Vapeshki) lakes are two picturesque glacial lakes in Central Rila, between the summits of Vapa (2,528 m) and Sredniya peak (2,531 m). They are reached by the "In the Footsteps of the Glacier" eco-trail, which starts from the resort of Semkovo. The climb to Vapa adds not only impressive panoramic views into the heart of Rila, but a sense of remarkable calm and quiet that few summits can offer.

Tour Itinerary
The walk starts from Semkovo hut on the "In the Footsteps of the Glacier" eco-trail. We set off along a broad dirt road that gradually leads us into the shady coniferous forests of Rila. The route is gentle and pleasant, and as we gain height the landscape changes - we enter the alpine zone of dwarf pine, not far from the Vapski lakes. There we take a short break to enjoy the beautiful view and the quiet. From the lakes the route continues towards the ridge. The ground becomes stonier and more technical, with stretches overgrown with dwarf pine. Coming out on the ridge, only a short climb over open, stony ground remains to Vapa itself. On the summit we take a longer rest to enjoy the panoramic views and the sense of complete calm the place offers.
