Thassos Island Adventure: 4 Days Between Peaks and Beaches

19 - 22 September 2026 Saturday – Tuesday 4 Days - 3 Nights
Greece
Organized or own

Thassos is known for its beautiful beaches, clear sea and welcoming tavernas - but it hides another side too: the wild nature of its mountains. Over four days we will show you that other face of the island.
We climb the island's highest summit, Ipsarion (1204 m), which serves up superb views over the sea. Our plan also takes in Kamenos Vrahos - a striking rocky peak reached by lovely trails. There will be time to relax on the beach as well, and to explore local landmarks that bring us closer to the history and culture of Thassos.
A perfect blend of adventure, downtime and beauty awaits you!

Tour Itinerary

Departure time: 6:00 AM

We set off towards the town of Keramoti in Greece, expecting to arrive around midday. From there we board the ferry to Thassos. On reaching the island a transfer takes us to our accommodation in the town of Limenaria. After checking in and having lunch, it is time for the beach and a stroll. Nearby stand the Archangel Michael Monastery and the famous Giola lagoon, also known as the Tear of Aphrodite. Local legend has it that the pool was created by Zeus so that Aphrodite could bathe in it. In the evening we enjoy dinner at a carefully chosen taverna, where we go over the plan for the next day.

Today we are up earlier and head for the old capital of Thassos, the town of Theologos, where we begin our first climb in the Ipsario mountains. Our objective is Kamenos Vrahos. The marble rock of the summit and the ground around it call to mind a miniature Vihren. On the way up we take in impressive views of the sea, the whole island and tomorrow's target - Ipsarion.

Back down, there is time to visit a small hidden waterfall near the old capital, and then it is lunch and the beach.

An early start and off to the village of Potamia - the launching point for the climb of Ipsarion, the highest summit on the island. The route begins at the edge of the village along a narrow asphalt lane that brings us to the first resting place. From there the path follows a river bed, hemmed in by broadleaf and coniferous woods that keep the air cool and the mood secluded. As we leave the tree line the ground turns steadily rockier and the height gain starts to make itself felt. Under the full sun we begin the climb up the switchbacks that carry us to the ridge. From here the first breathtaking views open over the island, wrapped in the endless blue of the Aegean. The final section is relatively short but demands care, as it crosses rocky ground. On reaching the summit our effort is repaid with a superb 360-degree panorama - the kind of view that stays with you. Then comes the descent, time to rest and the beach. There is the option of visiting the Olive Oil Museum.
