We climb the peak along the old Klimash road through Popovi Grobove saddle, then descend across the high Gyoldzhuka plateau past the Planinski Izvori spring. Tour Itinerary
The drive from Sofia to Anton takes about 1.5 hours. After a short briefing we set off from the upper end of the village on a dirt track that soon narrows to a path and leads us onto the Zanogata ridge - broad south-facing pastures looking back over Sredna Gora. The climb is long and steady; in its final stretch the path traverses the slopes of Baba and brings us to Popovi Grobove saddle (Antonski Preval). Here the ridge is crossed by the old Klimash road, which once linked the two sides of the Balkan.
From the saddle we head west along the main ridge. Now comes the steepest part of the day, a climb between small clusters of rock up to the summit dome. At 2,071 m we stand on Tetevenska Baba. Legend has it that the summit rocks are an old goatherd and her flock, frozen in place by a bitter March storm. On a clear day the view reaches Rila, Vitosha, Sredna Gora and the Rhodopes, with Buluvanya and Vezhen lined up to the east.
We descend west to the Gyoldzhuka plateau and the Planinski Izvori spring - a reliable water source on the route. Beside it stands the old Planinski Izvori hut, now under restoration. From here a marked path leads south down a long panoramic ridge, through pastures and beech forest, back to Anton. Return to Sofia.
