Hidden in the shadow of the Rila giants and often passed over because of its modest height of 2,014 metres, Sokolets remains one of those quiet but charming corners of Rila that surprise with their beauty and panorama. Surrounded by higher peaks, this relatively low but picturesque two-thousander offers a fine opportunity for a short and pleasant walk through ancient coniferous forest and winter calm. The climb is short but rewards you with wide views towards Central Rila, the valley of the Beli Iskar and the Musala ridge - a real jewel for mountain lovers looking for an easy route with a big return in beauty and a sense of freedom.

Tour Itinerary
The transfer to the starting point of the walk takes around 1 hour 30 minutes.
We travel to the Borovets resort, where our route to Sokolets begins. The path winds up in short, steep switchbacks and quickly enters the coniferous forests of Rila. We gradually gain height, and as we emerge above the treeline the first panoramic views open before us. After about two hours of climbing we reach a level area covered in low vegetation and rocky outcrops. The last metres bring us out onto the viewpoint rocks around the highest point of the peak. From here a striking view opens towards Skakavtsite, the Malyovitsa section, Vitosha and even the distant ridges of the Balkan Range. After a short rest, time for photographs and lunch, we begin the descent by the same route back to the starting point. Before leaving for Sofia we make a short stop at a local restaurant, where we round off the day with hot food and good company - a fitting finish to a clear, full winter day in Rila.
