Autumn has turned Rila gold, and the silence high up is absorbing. This time we head for a more hidden corner of the Musala section - Shatar peak. From Borovets, through coniferous forest and panoramic views, we make our way to Chakar Voyvoda hut, amid quiet and the first breath of winter.

Tour Itinerary
The transfer to the Borovets resort takes around an hour and a half.
Packs on our backs, we set off along the familiar path to Chakar Voyvoda hut. A little later we leave it behind us and the climb continues through the ski runs towards the Sitnyakovo rock. The first views of the day are waiting there, after which we walk on up to the open ground above the treeline. The shade of the conifers falls behind us, and ahead lie dense stretches of dwarf pine, through which the path leads us steadily closer to our goal - Shatar peak. At 2,495 metres it raises a rocky brow above the dwarf pine and opens panoramas towards the Musala ridge, and to Ibar, Ravni Chal and Belmeken. After a short stay and some photographs we head down to Chakar Voyvoda hut, where warmth and comfort are waiting, before finishing the walk back in Borovets.
