Ortsevo - a weekend in the heights of the Western Rhodope Mountains

Rhodope

Join us in an endless universe where the magic of the Rhodope Mountains will completely captivate us. We'll admire incredible sunrises and sunsets, immerse ourselves in homely comfort and Rhodope hospitality, while delicious feasts and traditional songs will make our evenings even more enjoyable.

Tour Itinerary

Early departure from Sofia on Saturday. Meeting point is in front of Vasil Levski Stadium at 7:00 AM. For those who prefer personal transportation, the meeting point is directly in the village of Avramovo.

After the group gathers, the guides will provide a brief to the group and safety instructions. We'll pack our backpacks and set off to execute the plan for the day. With spirited steps, we head towards the HIGHEST village in the country - Ortsevo at 1555 meters above sea level. Our trek will last around 4-5 hours, navigating through forest paths and dirt roads. We'll undoubtedly ascend Velitsa Peak and take a break at its marvelous shelter.

In the village of Ortsevo, we'll settle into the welcoming guest house. The views here are a once-in-a-lifetime sight. It leaves us breathless. The entire Pirin Mountain unfolds before us, its peaks lined up like beads on a necklace. The shy Rila Mountain reveals itself, waiting to embrace the sunset in its arms. Here, you can witness the magic happening. Words fall short to describe the enchantment of colors spreading across the snow-capped mountain peaks.

After we spend the day, it's time to honor our smiling hosts who will treat us to a Rhodopean dinner! The food is undoubtedly worth it. A fitting end to the day with music, cheer, and dancing!

Bulgarians say that the day is known from the morning. Our morning will start early with the sunrise at first cockcrow. We'll wait for the sun to paint the sky while holding a cup of coffee, and by the time we feel it, breakfast will be ready. Warm pastries and a cup of tea, and we'll be ready to conquer any peaks.

Today the direction will be downhill. We mustn't miss visiting the renowned fishpond in the village of Buntsevo and enjoying some fish. Once we descend to Yakoruda, we have a surprise for you. A short journey on the narrow-gauge railway to the village of Avramovo. Here we are, amazed by views, sunsets, sunrises, pleasant company, dances, songs, and delicious food.

Unnoticed, the two days have passed, but the memory of this EPIC weekend will linger.
