We begin at Slivodolsko Padalo - one of the highest waterfalls in the range — and then follow the picturesque path through the Canyon of the Waterfalls. The high point is the ascent of Orpheus peak (2,188 m), from which breathtaking views open out. Along the way we pass the Orpheus Rocks, a place wrapped in legend and panorama. Tour Itinerary

The transfer to the area around the village of Bachkovo takes around 2 hours 30 minutes. On arrival we take what we need in our packs and set off upstream along the river Slivov Dol towards our first goal of the day, the Slivodolsko Padalo waterfall. Along the way we enjoy several smaller falls, crystal-clear blue-tinged pools, cool green forest and any number of places to rest.

We carry on to Chepelare, where we stop for lunch and good food in comfortable surroundings. Afterwards we head for the Canyon of the Waterfalls - an exceptionally picturesque route passing through the Soskovcheto reserve. Here we are struck by the 46 waterfalls along the course of the river, the highest of them, Orpheus, dropping from almost 70 metres. We end the day with a transfer to the village of Gela, where we settle in. If time allows, we make a short detour on the way to the Orpheus Rocks, from which a compelling panorama of the Rhodopes opens up.

After a good sleep and our coffee, enjoying the quiet of the Rhodope expanse, it is time to step into it. Today's goal is the highlight of our trip - the ascent of the highest accessible summit in the Rhodopes, Orpheus peak. Our route starts from the centre of the village and runs for most of its length through the coniferous forests of the Prespa-Perelik section of the range. Shortly before the summit the high mountain meadows typical of the Rhodopes open up, thick with herbs. And here we are on top, where we can recharge on the views spread out before us. We return by the same path to the village. On arrival we pack up and set off for Sofia, stopping for lunch on the way.
