If you are after a challenge, wild scenery and experiences you will remember for a long time, then climbing Dzhangal (2,729 m) and Gazey, together with a visit to the picturesque Upper Gazey lake - also known as the „Lady with the Bun“ - is exactly for you. Dzhangal is emblematic for its forbidding silhouette and alpine character, while Gazey is striking for its perfectly formed granite pyramid. This is a route for true connoisseurs of Pirin: raw, beautiful and inspiring.
The programme suits moderately experienced hillwalkers in good physical condition with experience of long days.

Tour Itinerary
The transfer to the lower lift station at the Gotse Delchev hut takes about 2:30 hours.
The lift up to the Bezbog hut takes about 30 minutes, and from there we head for Popovo lake, the largest in Pirin. The whole way the forbidding silhouette of today's objective, Dzhangal, rises in front of us. After a short break beside the lake our big adventure for the weekend begins. We will judge on the spot which of the hidden paths to take - one thing is certain: a serious, technical climb lies ahead. On the summit we will give ourselves time to rest and recover, after which we descend towards the Valyavishki lakes, and from there, down the valley of the river Demyanitsa, reach the hut of the same name where we spend the night.
⚠️ Please note: the ascent of the peak is not suitable for anyone afraid of heights or who has difficulty crossing steep, exposed ground.
Today a long day and a no less challenging route back to the lift await us. After an early rise and breakfast we head upstream along the Gazey river, entering the wild, stony Gazey cirque. The ground is overgrown with dwarf pine, stony and technical - combined with the height to be gained, this is a real Pirin test. After a break in the cirque we climb to the perfect granite pyramid of Gazey peak, from which a view opens to the beautiful Upper Gazey lake, also known as the „Lady with the Bun“. From there we continue to Polezhan peak, and then the long descent to the Bezbog hut begins, from where we take the lift back to our starting point.
⚠️ Please note: if the group is going well, it may also be possible to climb Malak Polezhan.
