Our one-day journey along the Dobrostan ridge promises wild views, waterfalls and a brush with ancient sacred places. The route takes us through the Chervenata Stena biosphere reserve, part of the UNESCO programme. Our goal is Popa peak (1,317 m), in the central part of the ridge, known for its panoramic views and its characteristic, deeply broken relief. On the way we find one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the Rhodopes, Slivodolsko Praskalo, whose water drops from close to 50 metres. To finish, we steep ourselves in the atmosphere of one of the most significant spiritual and cultural centres in Bulgaria — Bachkovo Monastery.

Tour Itinerary
The transfer to Bachkovo Monastery takes around 2 hours 20 minutes.
The climb begins gently along the river Slivov Dol, and before long we reach the waterfall of the same name — the highest in the Rhodopes. Having enjoyed its drop, we head for the ridge, where the gradient and the height gain make themselves increasingly felt. Throughout we walk among the forests of the Chervenata Stena reserve. On reaching the ridge we take a short break before continuing south-east towards Popa peak. The final climb is short but steep, and leads to panoramic views that reveal the beauty of the Rhodopes. After photographs and a well-earned rest, the descent awaits, along with good food at a trusted restaurant and a visit to Bachkovo Monastery.
