Bilo Peak (1,737 m) is the highest point of Kraishte, a border ridge with panoramic views into Serbia, Osogovo, Vitosha and Rila. The hike starts from the remote mountain village of Shipkovitsa and follows wide pasture tracks with barely-noticeable gradient despite over 500 metres of total ascent. From the ridge, views stretch across Serbian Kraishte, Osogovo, Stara Planina, Vitosha, Rila and even Pirin — a rare panorama for such an easy-terrain day hike.

Tour Itinerary

Departure time: 6:30 AM

We start at the parking area at the end of the paved road near Shipkovitsa (1,229 m), where a wide dirt track leads across open pastures with a view on one side throughout. After roughly 3–4 km we pass briefly through forest, ending just before the ridge. Here is the route's only junction: 500 m to the right leads to the panoramic Kărvav Kamak rock (which gives the mountain its name — "Bloody Rock"), while straight ahead follows the old border furrow for about 1.5 km to Bilo Peak. A military watchtower on the summit affords views all the way to Vlasina Lake in Serbia. Return by the same route.
