Donchovi Karauli and Banderishki Chukar: a Traverse in the Heart of Northern Pirin
Today we set off on a panoramic traverse that takes us to imposing Banderishki Chukar (2,731 m), crossing every top of the Donchovi Karauli along the way. The route offers sharp edges, exhilarating views over the cirques of Banderitsa, Spano Pole and Bashliytsa, and a sense of real mountain freedom. This is a walk for anyone who loves demanding ground, airy paths and that singular moment when the mountain shows you its raw but beautiful side.

Tour Itinerary
The transfer to Vihren hut takes around 3 hours. We set off from Vihren hut, heading through the valley of the river Banderitsa towards the celebrated Muratovo lake. Before long we reach it, and after a short break for photographs we continue to the Banderitsa Gate. From here the more interesting part begins - the crossing of the airy edge of the Donchovi Karauli. On the way we pass the Needle of Karauli, drawing steadily closer to the high point of the day - Banderishki Chukar. Once on the summit it is time to look around, and there is good reason to: we are in the heart of northern Pirin, and the views are, to put it mildly, captivating. After a well-earned rest and a chance to recharge, we head towards Vazela peak, where the Todorino ridge - one of the four side ridges of Pirin - branches off. On the way back to Vihren hut we pass the Banderitsa lakes, including the picturesque Zhabeshko lake - a beautiful finish to an exhilarating day in the mountains.

Headlamp - An absolute must-have accessory for every mountaineer. It may be necessary for the group to start a trek very early or finish the trek in the dark (force majeure).
