Tour Itinerary
05:00 - we meet the group at an agreed point in Sofia. The drive from Sofia is around 600 km and takes roughly 10 hours, not counting breaks.
On the way, by request and arranged in advance, we can make a short stop at the bridge over the river Drina and in Mokra Gora, to visit Emir Kusturica's wooden town.
We arrive towards evening at the campsite in the Tara river canyon and settle into cosy wooden bungalows looking out over the river. Accommodation is arranged to suit the group, in twos, threes and fours. The campsite also allows sleeping in tents.
Once we are settled we enjoy a good dinner and Durmitor National Park.
The day starts gently with a good breakfast at the campsite around 9:30, while we enjoy the fresh mountain air and get ourselves in the mood for the adventure ahead.
Around 11:00 we begin preparing for our second descent. We are issued all the equipment we need - wetsuits, helmets and buoyancy aids - and then get ready to meet the fast water of the Tara.
At 11:30 the professional instructors run a detailed briefing on safety and the basic paddling techniques, so that everyone feels confident and ready for the descent ahead.
At 12:00 sharp we launch onto one of the most exciting rafting runs in the Balkans. Over the next 3-4 hours we meet lively class III rapids, crystal-clear water, high cliffs and striking views of the Tara canyon. Along the way we make a special stop for a picnic in the open air, and anyone who wants to can cool off under a beautiful waterfall.
After a day full of adrenaline we are back at the campsite around 17:00, loaded with emotion, smiles and stories to tell.
9:30 - breakfast at the campsite.
11:00 - preparation for the first rafting descent begins, with equipment handed out and everyone changed.
11:30 - the rafting safety briefing.
12:00 - the descent of the Tara begins and lasts around 3-4 hours. The river is class III and the run delivers a steady dose of adrenaline and unforgettable views. Halfway down we stop for a picnic and a swim under a waterfall.
Around 17:00 we are back.
One last proper breakfast, and it is time to head back to Bulgaria.
