We set off in the late afternoon from the Inter Expo Center metro station, on the side of the Metro store. For anyone who would rather come by car, we meet on the shore of the reservoir - this can also be on the Saturday morning, as you prefer. For those travelling with us, the night is in a guest house or in a tent on the shore of the Dospat reservoir.
For lovers of the kayak and of the mountains, the Dospat reservoir is the ideal destination. Set in the westernmost part of the Rhodopes at 1,200 m above sea level, it ranks among the largest in Bulgaria by both area and volume. And anyone who simply loves nature and quiet places will discover a new meaning for the word „calm“. After morning coffee and breakfast it is time for the active part. The group gathers on the shore and the guides give a briefing and some instruction. If the temperature is high enough, a swim in the clean water will be a bonus to the programme. The circuit of the reservoir is not demanding; we will stop for breaks and a picnic among the ancient conifer forest. Anyone who would like to is welcome to bring a hammock. Once we are back at camp there will be time for a walk, for fishing or for a rest. The day ends beside the barbecue with good things we will cook ourselves, and under a sky strewn with stars we will go back over the day.
A generous breakfast, a coffee, and we set off for Shiroka Polyana. Here we will make a wonderful half-day circuit of the reservoir, which has a reputation as one of the most beautiful in the country. Towards 15:00 we load the boats and head for Sofia.
