Pirin is one of the highest mountains in Bulgaria. It is one of the three national parks in the country, the others being Rila National Park and Central Balkan National Park. The park was established in 1962 and its territory was expanded several times since then. Pirin National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

Tour Itinerary
Breakfast, backpacks tightened, and with big smiles, we head back towards the heights. Today's destination is the Bashliyski Chukar peak (2683m).
Upon reaching the summit, we'll leave you ample time for photos of the snowy giants surrounding us. And perhaps, in the distance, lies your next dream peak. The epic weekend is coming to its end. We head back to the shelter, gather our belongings, and descend to our vehicles.
Early departure from Sofia at 7:00 AM - meeting point in front of Vasil Levski Stadium.
We head towards Sandanski and then to the area of Popina Laka. Here, we leave the vehicles. After a brief briefing and instructions to the group, we put on our backpacks, and our trek to the Spano Pole shelter can begin.
The shelter is also known as 'The Mushrooms' due to the bungalow with red roofs and white dots. It's simply enchanting. We adore this place, possessing its own magic. Once you've been there, you'll always want to return. The ascent to the shelter takes about 3 hours along a marked trail, mainly through the forest. Once we reach the shelter and settle in, we lighten our backpacks for a day trip and head towards the Spanopolski Chukar peak.
The feeling is magical—white panoramas, a sea of peaks, and us. Truly merging with the nature of the Pirin Mountains. We return to the shelter, content with the day and filled with emotions. And by the fireplace in the dining area, it's the perfect spot to discuss the day over a glass of red wine.
