The Malyovishki lakes lie at the south-eastern edge of Malyovo Pole, tucked behind the Kalbura rib and well away from the busy path to Malyovitsa. We climb up to them along the Zaeshka path, have lunch on the shore of the second lake and then take on Ushite peak (2547 m) - the two rock masses that really do look like a pair of ears from a distance. From the top the whole Urdin cirque opens up with its lakes, and Malyovitsa hangs almost directly overhead.

Tour Itinerary
We start from the car park by the mountaineering school in the Mecha Polyana locality (1706-1723 m). The first hour is a warm-up: a broad, clear path through coniferous forest, two springs along the way and a view of the Malyovitsa massif that opens gradually. We reach Malyovitsa hut (1960 m) - the last spring and the last chance to rest on the benches out front.
From here we leave the main path. The Zaeshka path starts near the hut and immediately begins to gain height through the dwarf pine. It is waymarked in white and red, with cairns. The path forks before the Kuklata via ferrata, but we keep left towards Malyovo Pole and the three Malyovishki lakes (2328-2362 m), where we stop for lunch.
After the steep climb we come out onto Malyovo Pole and the view opens all at once: Malyovitsa, Orlovets, Lovnitsa, Kupenite. A few minutes more and we are above the Lower Malyovishko lake (2328 m) - the largest of the three, with flat ground to rest on at the shore. We carry on up the terraces past the middle and upper lakes (approx. 2335-2362 m), where we usually take the lunch break.
From the upper lake the path emerges onto a short ridge where three directions branch off - towards the col between Malyovitsa and Orleto, towards the Urdin cirque, and right towards Ushite peak (2547 m). We take that one: the last 15-20 minutes follow an unmarked but obvious line among boulders and tufts of grass, with no scrambling. From the summit comes the strongest view of the day - the Urdin cirque opposite with some of its lakes, Zeleni Vrah, Vazov Vrah (Damga), Dodov Vrah, Mermerite, and Malyovitsa literally above us.
We return by the same route: straight down to the lakes, along the shore of the lower lake and back along the Zaeshka path to the hut and the mountaineering school.
